Dipstick hard to read? Easy tip for hard-to-read dipsticks (Toyota 2GR-FE dipstick shown)
Quick tip: if you're having trouble reading an oil dipstick, remove the dipstick to allow any oil that's stuck to the sides of the dipstick tube to drain back into the crankcase. Simply leave the dipstick out for about an hour, then insert the dipstick and check the level. You'll see that it's much easier to read the level on the dipstick after the oil has cleared from the dipstick tube.
I hope this video was helpful for you - thanks for watching, and see you on the next repair!

    Thank you so much for your videos, they are amazing. I just recently bought a 97 RAV4 (only 180000km) and I'm working through as much as I can to get the car running properly. It has a slight misfire/hesitation issue, almost undetectable in motorway driving but noticeable when on the mountain roads where I live in southern Spain. Regarding reading fault codes. I'd like to know what make/ type of diagnostic tool will read from the 22 pin port. I have an adapter cable but don't want to waste money on anything that isn't compatible. Please keep up the great work you are doing 🙂

    Why did you snap back on the connection to the fuel pump @14:43 ? I thought the whole point was for the fuel not to leak all over the place? In what step does the fuel get prevented from spilling when disconnecting the quick disconnect?

    • @L35inColorado
      @L35inColorado 4 дня назад

      You can reconnect the electrical for the fuel pump, as shown at 14:43, after you've started the engine and let it die (or in this case, it wouldn't even start) with the fuel cut off (ie, the fuel pump electrical disconnected). The purpose of starting/attempting to start the engine with the fuel source cut-off is to depressurize the system. There will still be a bit of fuel in the tubes, but the fuel will not be pressurized (15:40). If you were to disconnect the fuel line without depressurizing the system first, the the act of disconnecting the fuel line would cause the depressurization, a fuel spill, and kinda a mess! (It is also a fire hazard to open a pressurized fuel system, so always depressurize the system first) I hope that helps - thanks for watching! : )

    • @L35inColorado
      @L35inColorado 4 дня назад

      Yes, I know what you mean - as every year passes, these reservoirs become more difficult to find intact at the scrapyards. If you decide to buy a new one, buy the "old" version (the smaller size), if you can, because they are so much easier to install! Good luck - and thanks for watching! : )

    If the fuel pressure test fails, where would I start as far as checking/replacing parts? I’m having issues where I have to wait about 10 seconds after putting the key in “ON” position before starting in order for the car to start. Otherwise the engine will turn but not fire up. My fuel pump isn’t the issue, I swapped and still persists. New intake manifold gasket, new starter too.

    Thank you for your diy tutorials. I watched your other video on how to fix oil leaks on the solenoid and camshaft positioning sensor and it worked great. Unfortunately I watched someone else’s diy video for this and didn’t mentioned about TDC. You think I messed something up not following the instructions about the TDC? I will be replacing the tensioner itself in hopes of fixing the rattling engine noise and hopefully will be able to duplicate what you did from setting the crankshaft to TDC to releasing the hook. This noise started just last week about 2-3 months after replacing the o ring and was wondering if that has something to do with not setting the crankshaft to tdc before removing it?

    Hello from the UK. I think you are awesome. I’m working my way through your videos. I was searching for Rav4 tips & tricks. I’ve ended up doing a marathon of your videos instead of working on the car 👌

    I absolutely adore your videos. Attention to detail, without the rambling, no cutesy bs, just the facts and all of them. Part numbers, tools, procedure, perfect. Even us 'old timers' that have worked on all of our own equipment/vehicles for over 50 years, learn from your process. Thank you very much and please keep it up. Oh, btw, just a note on todays economics, that 46mm 12pt is now 22.98 (sure the smaller ones are still a similar old price, but not this one), the 1 13/16 Socket still 19.99. Once again, thank you for such a concise, no nonsense video, should be the bar used for others.

      Thank you so much for your comment! I'm sorry that I somehow missed your comment - much respect to you for having worked on machines for as long as you have. That's awesome and I hope to be there one day, too! Thanks also for adding the update on the socket price (yikes, everything is getting more and more expensive, but at least we don't have to pay for youtube yet)! Thanks for watching : )

      @@L35inColorado - You are quite welcome and I wish you and your nothing but the best. Keep up the good work. As for me, need to go fix some tractor hydraulics, then there is that ATV carb, still putting off dropping my F250 fuel tank for that damned hidden fuel pump and the Jeep Commander's spark plugs. The Wife's ML430 is so far the easiest to deal with. 😁

    Warning! This video is great and very helpful, but beware of buying parts by the Kawasaki part number. I used the the Kawasaki part number in this video and bought a brand new pump. It is an exact match for what was on my Deere. However the new part was defective andthe seller will not take any responsibility for it, because I have a Kawasaki engine code with a Deer suffix. They claim that with that code, the only part number that is known to work with the engine is the Deere part number. Of course this is BS, but I am none-the-less screwed out of $70. If the new pump had not been defective, I would have certainly saved a lot of money, but please be aware of this potential downside with not buying the Deere part number.
